Why do we bother?

There are times I really have sympathy for the whole “shoot them dead, forget the trial” view of criminal justice. I resist it, but things like this make it really tough.

Suspect, waiting for trial, cuts off electronic monitoring device and splits. What’s he charged with?

(Suspect) is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team for outstanding warrants. The warrants were issued for possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

So we know he has a prior record.
