In the grand scheme of criminals, these two have to be the biggest losers out there.
RALEIGH — A man whose money was taken out of his hands at a check-cashing business stopped the robbery by chasing the thief, tackling him in a parking lot and holding him, with the help of workers from the business, until officers arrived, police said.
A short time later, police arrested (Suspect 2) of Cary, whom they were told had been waiting in a getaway car but fled on foot when the crowd chased the robber out of the office.
The people who use check cashing places do not have other options. They’d probably use a bank and have direct deposit if they could. Taking money from their hands is probably taking all the money that they have, and they are likely to react poorly.
The story does not say that Suspect 1 was taken to the hospital for severe injuries, which tells me that the pack didn’t beat him senseless. While I have a certain sympathy for beating robbers to within an inch of their lives, it is probably best that they turned him over to the proper authorities.
