That sound you hear?

Listen carefully. Can you hear it?

Leading the changes from prior GOP platforms was a sentence backing the use of deadly force for self-defense. The added sentence reads: “We acknowledge, support and defend law-abiding citizens’ God-given right of self-defense.”

That sound is the sound of the gun grabber’s buttholes slamming shut.

I have no idea if the GOP plans on actually adopting their pro-gun rights platform, much less following through on it. But the gun grabbers will soon be screaming like bunnies caught in a leg-hold trap.

Here’s the thing. The argument is not about guns. It never has been. If it was about the guns themselves or about the crimes committed with guns, we’d have followed a much different path than the current “gun control” agenda. The actual argument is with the foundational principles of our republic.

The base assumption of our system of government is

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It’s the “certain inalienable Rights” part that absolutely chaps the anti-rights cabal’s collective ass.

When the GOP says “God-given right of self-defense” they aren’t just saying that citizens are allowed to use reasonable force to prevent someone from killing them. They are saying that Government, in all its majesty, does not have to power to take that right of self-defense away. The GOP, in this one statement, is acknowledging that there are higher principles involved than State power.

That’s the real argument. The Left believes that rights come from Government. The Left believes that rights are subject to modification by that Government. The Left believes that if the Government, by which they mean themselves, decides to deny a right, that right no longer exists. It’s part and parcel of what they MUST believe. They MUST believe that there is no authority, no appeal, no higher principle than mere will to power. Because if there is, they have to follow it or else face the same fate as our Colonial overlords.

Will someone tell me how exactly in 200 years the “Left” in the US has turned into the very picture of the Monarchy we overthrew? Who exactly dreamed up “Divine Right of Kings Leftists?”
