Outrageous, but not the way you’d think

The story of what he did is outrageous enough.

A Durham man was charged Friday with felony cruelty to animals after an investigation found he’d starved his dog to death.

But what’s worse than that is this

This is the comment I left.

Why is everyone so offended? Look at what he’s been taught. Google NC Department of Corrections and look him up in their criminal database. He’s been convicted of illegally carrying a concealed weapon, possessing stolen goods, resisting an officer, marijuana possession, assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony DUI “impaired instruction,” felony resisting an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He’s committed all of these crimes yet he’s spent not one day in prison for them. He must understand that we just don’t care what he does. If we cared, if it bothered us, if we were outraged that he would act this way we would have thrown him in prison and left him there.

He is probably bewildered that anyone cares how badly he mistreated his dogs. No one gave a damn about how he mistreated all the people around him, so why would he imagine that we would care about the dogs?
