Our daily numbers show the following changes from yesterday
- 26,358 new tests
- 1,107 new cases
- 21 more hospitalizations
- 9 more deaths
I’m really angry right now. National Public Radio posted a story that reads “North Carolina Reports Highest One Day Spike Of COVID-19 Cases.”
North Carolina has reported its highest one-day spike in new COVID-19 cases, a development that comes a day after the state entered its second phase of re-opening.
In a statement Saturday, the state’s Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,107 infections – around 250 more cases than the state’s last highest daily tally.
Here’s what they don’t tell you. Today they had 26,358 test results returned, which is more than double the largest number of tests results returned on a single day, and that previous record was 2 days ago. This is a MASSIVE ramping up of testing. Today’s positive tests represent 4.20% of the total number of test results today. Compare that to the cumulative test result average of 6.90%.
But did NPR tell us the good news that the “spike” in cases was purely an artifact of massively increased testing? Nope.
